    I hated this movie. Most of the fights were really boring and underwhelming, especially in terms of choreography. They mostly fell on flashy xray sequences to have anything of interest happen in them. Really a waste of most of the characters. This movie also continued a trend from the first one that I really didn't like where it pretty much cut off a lot of potential for the universe or storyline to expand in any way. The most egregious example of this is that Shinnok's entire story gets resolved in the last 10 minutes of the movie. MK4 is huge in terms of its place in the MK timeline, and yet it gets reduced to a side plot in this movie. I don't get this decision that the writers made to basically rush everything. A lot of moments in this movie, like Lao's death, felt cheapened as a result of the rushed and predictable writing.

    Raiden might be the best part of this movie only because he's the only character to be developed in any sort of way, and is the only character I had any investment in as a result. He didn't get to have an entertaining fight scene like Liu and only Liu did, but he was the only character I felt had anything of interest going on with him.

    Ultimately this movie felt like a giant waste of potential. Which hurts to see because I so desperately want to see this franchise allow its characters that aren't front and center to be developed further through media outside of the games, but instead it just repeats the same story arcs and beats over and over again. I would honestly kill to see something like the MKX comics made in order to flesh out the already established NRS universe more. So many characters have potential that isn't realized due to the constraints of solely being in a fighting game that can only allot them so much time while pushing forward the main story. Animation could have been a fantastic medium for this.
