    Just watched the film (2021) and have some thoughts…

    These things have probably been discussed at length on this sub already so apologies in advance for any stating of the obvious or repetition.

    Characters:

    Kano - stole the show, great portrayal of everyone's favourite arsehole by Josh Lawson. Absolute travesty that they killed him off in such a naff way. He could have been such a great character in future films, such a wasted opportunity.

    Sonya - so dull, I genuinely didn't care about her in this film at all.

    Jax - same, pretty boring portrayal and I didn't connect with the character at all.

    Liu Kang - wasn't sure about this one, I think they were trying to go for a depiction of Liu that was fairly early in his fighting career, which is fine, but there wasn't really any sign of the character we've seen in the games; just didn't feel like Liu Kang to me.

    Kung Lao - again, somewhat of a show stealer and a solid performance by Max Huang. Again, stupid that they killed him in a pretty naff way. I was looking forward to future Kung Vs Kano scenes in more films, but alas.

    Shang Tsung - wasn't a fan of the costume design or the portrayal. I felt like he needed to less serious and a bit more campy, little bit more sass. He was just standard issue evil wizard in this. Also, if he was so powerful that he could just telepathically pick up a hardened fighter like Kung Lao and suck out their soul, couldn't have just taken down all of the heroes himself?

    Raiden - didn't really like what they were going for here, the grumpy curmudgeon thunder god didn't work for me. And why couldn't he just appear to each of the fighters? Why did he need Liu Kang to hunt them down?

    Sub Zero - great portrayal, really enjoyed his menacing presence. His line "I am Sub Zero" didn't work, felt quite forced. Everyone knew him as Bi Han, so the name Sub Zero could have been a daft nickname Kano says at one point that just sticks. Also I think some more context for why he killed Hanzo was needed for new audiences.

    Scorpion - he wasn't really in it long enough but what I saw I liked.

    Kabal/Mileena - pretty much wasted in this, looked excellent but both characters were under utilised. Disappointing.

    Cole Young - did not give a shit about him. Such a dull, boring character. No.

    Plot:

    On the whole it get rushed and didn't feel like it had been thought out at all. There were so many wasted or poorly explained parts:

    How did Sonya find Kano?

    How did Kabal and Kano know each other?

    How did Shang Tsung gather his fighters?

    Why was Shang Tsung's face dirty in that one scene with Mileena?

    Why didn't Raiden just appear to each fighter and explain the whole prophecy of mortal kombat to them? I hated the arcana thing, so stupid, why couldn't the characters just have those powers without some wafty half baked explanation? It felt like the film makers where trying to ground the story in a real world setting but it just didn't feel right or make sense.

    All in all, I was really disappointed with the film. What do other people think? Did you like it? Do you agree/disagree with me?

    Many more. Also the issue seemed to be console/situation specific, as I know friends who use PS4 who can use variation names that I can't, and vice-versa.

    This seems like such a simple problem that they had so much time to address.... any hopes that they'll tune it up? Or is Mk11 done-done, even with patches?

    Why do the Daily Challenges keep making me win with Cassie Cage???

    There are 37 freaking characters here. Is there something I'm missing? I've seen "Win with Cassie Cage" more than any other character (Kotal, one challenge) or actual combat challenges (brutalities, once). Are these random, or is Ed Boone personally trolling me now that I picked up MK11?
