    Everyone complains that Liu Kang didn't win against Goro , but this makes a great arc for him, if he couldn't beat Goro how could he think he even has a chance to defeat Shao Kahn. That seems much more interesting than Liu Kang defeats Goro, Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung, Liu Kang defeats Shao Kahn.The point is he isn't as strong as he thought, and failure is the greatest teacher, so now he will have to become a better person and a better fighter to fulfill his destiny to defeat Shao Kahn. Otherwise he's just a Mary Sue or Gary Stu since he's a guy.

    Minor Movie review with no spoiler.

    Pros:

    • Every fight scene with Subzero is pretty decent. He's the best part of the movie
    • Kano is pretty funny throughout the movie. I didn't have much expectation for him but I came to really like him.
    • Special effects are pretty decent. Notably, Subzero's ice attacks. Liu Kang's fire looks pretty cool in the trailer already. That applies to pretty much everyone's power.
    • The special effect aspect covers the Fatalities as well. Pretty gruesome and impactful when it happens.
    • This also applies to CGI fights. I've seen a few concerned questioned regarding Goro but I thought he looked decent.

    Cons:

    • Fights that are not involving Scorpion or Subzero have much less impact. There are more quick cuts/editing and camera close-ups in those fights. For example, in the trailer, when you briefly see Liu Kang fights Kabal, you see how close the camera is zoomed in. It's like that in many of the fights.
    • The pacing gets pretty fast toward the end. It almost felt like the last arc tried to get things out of the way ASAP to get to the final battle.
    • Villains are heavily underutilized. Other than Subzero, the rest might as well have been nameless minions (Kabal was decent though). If you were excited for the minor villains to shine, you are most likely going to be disappointed.
    • Long-time MK fans might dislike Cole. But I did see few positive responses so I do think not everyone will hate him (I personally don't like him).

    Overall, few action scenes are great and there are definitely elements that the fans will enjoy. If you are not picky about the actions in general unlike me, you probably will like every fight scene.

    I watched this movie 3 times due to different people wanting to watch it with me and I tagged along.

    My first viewing didn't feel great but I had so much more fun in my second and third viewing due to I knew what to expect and appreciated the movie for what it is.

    Just do not expect the actions to be anywhere near Raid, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, or Night Comes For Us level (as it seems that people around me who had high expectations for actions are the ones most disappointed) and don't expect the story to be something amazing.

    If you do that, you are very likely going to have fun.
