If we get another DC Elseworlds-esque skin pack, Sindel absolutely needs a Silver Banshee skin. NRS hasn’t given DLC characters much love with skins (besides Shang and Shao) but this is too easy. Yay or nay? And what other skins can you think of?

    What Geras is Thinking

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 11:11 AM PDT

Apart of me thinks they'll end up dropping the '11' from the title, to further indicate that this Mortal Kombat game will be a platform that will be supported for years to come

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 06:26 AM PDT

The studio's favorite seems to be UMK3 (too lazy to find the receipts at this exact moment but Ed Boon, Jandy, Derek Kirtzic, and 16bit have all been on the record saying it's their favorite game) so I wouldn't be surprised if it was 'Ultimate Mortal Kombat' as a nod to UMK3, and to just show that this will be the Mortal Kombat for the rest of this generation. Like in this interview: It seems like with every Mortal Kombat or Injustice game, your team iterates on the gameplay and feature sets. "With MK 11, it felt like you found a sweet spot for gameplay in particular. Do you view this as a perfect opportunity to treat Mortal Kombat 11 as a platform instead of just a game that exists and spawns a sequel? Does that play any role in your thinking of releasing an expansion of this magnitude?"
I do think we have something that's solid. I've said this before, though: I do feel like there's room for further loosening of the reins. Ideally, I still would like to, and we are certainly still exploring, the notion of allowing the custom variations that players make to be used in competitive play. It's a huge balancing undertaking, but we are absolutely examining it. If I get my way, it'll be something that we're going to release in a future patch or something that will just give the player that much more freedom. We really just want to say, "Here's some more toys to play with. Come up with your favorite one!"

But I just wish they'd give us some type of roadmap to look forward to, like other live service games have been doing..

Most disappointing thing for you in MK11?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:28 PM PDT

I know fighting games aren't mainly about stories, but I appreciate the effort put into them.

Dark Raiden - For those of you that don't know, Dark Raiden was a character in MK Armageddon that went to extremes in defending Earth Realm, even going so far as to struck a deal with Shao Kahn for protection. He was teased being a main vocal point in MKX, leaving Shinnok's head in front of the Revenant's doorstep God Father style.

Then the game finally came out, and guess what he did? Nothing! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! He doesn't even get any dialogue! His default skin is his dark form, yet it's just Good Raiden from the past!

He could've had a story arc about what he's become, making his path to redemption a better pay off! I'm not sure what happened, maybe change of staff but what we got is beyond baffling.

That's just my two cents on the topic, let me know what you guys think.

How Do Variations Work in MK11?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 11:26 AM PDT

Hello everyone! I had a quick question in regards to the "variation" system in MK11. In the previous installment (MKX), variations played a HUGE role in competitive play. Not only did they change a character's aesthetic look (some more than others), they also potentially changed fighting styles, move sets, weapon(s) choice, extra strings/combos, roles, and viability in certain scenarios/situations. I just started playing MK11 a few month ago, and the other day I watched a video on the current "tier-list" for this patch, in order to see which character I would like to "learn" next, based on who is doing well right now, who was recently buffed, recently nerfed, etc. I kept noticing however, that in all of these ranking videos, they all kept talking about first, second, and third variations for each character, which variations were best, which variations were nerfed this patch, which variations are still viable, which variations have better zoning, pressure, etc. As if it was still MKX? However, I was under the impression that in MK11, variations really didn't mean much anymore, since everything was SO customizable, and therefore practically limitless as far as different combinations within variations go? Basically, what I'm wondering is, in MK11 are the ONLY areas in which variations affect/differ are the 2-3 special abilities you choose to equip? Or is there more to it, such as differences to combos, different base move/skill sets and fighting styles, more/less/different strings, different damage distributions, etc. like it was in MKX? I mean I know some of the equip-able special abilities are quite good, or work better for certain situations/fights, but I can't IMAGINE that if some characters are 90% the same in every way, except for the difference of 2-3 special moves/abilities (depending on how you choose to spend your 3 slots), that there would be ENOUGH difference for let's say one variation to be in S-Tier, and another in C-Tier. Especially when I'm sure with certain characters, there's more custom combination-possibilities available than just three variations worth. Of course like I said, I'm SURE there's some moves/abilities that are WAY better/stronger than others, (or work/mesh WAY better when paired with other certain abilities) either in every way, or in certain circumstances, but I just feel there were WAY more differences between variations in MKX (as well as previous games) than there is in MK11. I have seen a few characters' abilities however that (usually) cost 2-3 slots, and DO actually make numerous differences when equipping that one ability, such as the ability to extend certain strings/combos, add more unique combos, add more weapon/spell moves, add (air)/amplified variations to certain moves, etc. For example, one of these that comes to mind is Shang Tsung's "Shapeshifter's Training", which costs all 3-slots, but adds a whole plethora of new moves and upgrades. I'm not referring to THOSE types of abilities/characters/variations, rather only the ones who's basically entire list of equip-able abilities are very minor, and/or make very slight changes. Therefore, with all of that being said, can someone PLEASE enlighten me if that IS the case (with variations being less important/only changing very little), or if there IS indeed more of a difference between variations in MK11 than just the three-slots worth of special abilities that you can choose from? Thanks so much!
